Stage 2 of the Maes redevelopment well underway
Stage 2 of the Maes redevelopment moved forward today when the 'Water Feature's' workings were delivered on site. The new "fountain" feature is to be placed in front of the Bob Parry/ HSBC bank and will (at last) replace the old fountain which now resides on Pool Street.
Many of you will of course know that the original fountain was erected on the Maes to celebrate Llewelyn Turner's success in securing clean water to the town at a time when the deadly cholera epidemic was a great concern. The full story can be found on our resident historian Mr. T Meirion Hughes' Did you Know? pages.
Meiron has been forefront in getting Sir Llewelyn Turner's plaque made and erected in a suitable location in town and hopefully now at long last his dream will become a reality. What better place than on the Maes itself and perhaps close to the water feature to boot?

The work is already causing major disruptions to residents living in the New Street and Garnons Street area of town.
Many of you have already contacted COL to complain about the poor signage, with tales of coming into town via Victoria Dock only to find 'No Entry' signs on the Maes forcing a complete U-Turn and back track just to get home.
It seems that at present the only access into the Maes is via Bridge Street with no exit back out this way. Traffic is then directed out of town either via Tan y Bont (which is totally unsuitable for large vehicles) or via Slate Quay or Garnons Street.
Let's hope that this disruption will be minimal and will not be too much of a problem for the elderly in the effected area.
Caernarfon Online realises the problems facing the contractor and council and unrest is only expected, but lets keep short please.
