Easter Sunday

23rd March – Easter Bunnies

Win a prize in our engine shed Easter Egg hunt.  Rufus the Rabbit will be travelling on the train, and he may have a few mini eggs to give away.  But he’s a naughty rabbit sometimes, and the thin director may have to keep him in order!

May Bank Holiday Weekend

May 3rd, 4th & 5th – Hunslet: Generations

Our main gala event of the year will feature steam and diesel engines from one of Britain’s best known locomotive builders – Hunslet of Leeds.  Some of the oldest and newest built Hunslet locomotives will be in action over the weekend.  There’ll also be chance to see how we’re getting on with restoring one of the most famous Hunslet engines, the original Welsh Highland locomotive, Russell.

This event is taking place in conjunction with the Porthmadog Narrow Gauge and Industrial Model Railway Exhibition, which takes place opposite our station on the Saturday & Sunday.

May 31st & June 1st  – Teddy Bears Picnic

Children go FREE if they bring a teddy bear to the railway.  See if you can spot the bears hiding the Big Shed and win a prize.  Watch out for Biggles the mischievous bear, who’ll be riding on the train.

July 5th & 6th – Welsh Dragons

The friendly red dragons are taking over the shed for the weekend.  But they’re shy animals sometimes…… see if you can find them and win a prize!

Summer Holidays

July 19th - 31st August – Summer Steam Spectacular

Steam trains are running every day through the holidays.  Join us for a ride through the Snowdonia countryside, as well as chance to visit the engine sheds.

There’s a double steam spectacular from July 28th – August 29th when steam trains return to the Cambrian Coast main line between Machynlleth, Barmouth & Porthmadog.  “The Cambrian” runs from Mondays to Fridays each week, and continues through to Pwllheli on certain days.

Passengers on “The Cambrian” can also get a discount of 10% on a ride on the Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog).  Simply come to our shop and show your ticket from the main line train.

August Bank Holiday Weekend

August 24th & 25th – Jack the Station Cat Book Signing

Children’s author Alan Cliff will be at Porthmadog (WHR) station signing copies of his new books about the adventures of Jack, the friendly station cat, who lives at Tails End station.
