Bangor Mayor Ceremony

The outgoing Mayor of Bangor, Councillor Derek Heinge spoke about the difficulty of coping with the post due to the tragic loss of his wife at the start of his term. However, he carried out his duties to the best of his abilities but also had to hand over some of the tasks to the Deputy Mayor, Councillor John Wynne Jones, who is now the new Mayor, the second time round.

The New Mayor, Councillor John Wynne Jones spoke about £500,000.00 that is going to be spent by Gwynedd Council on cleaning up Bangor City.He also asked people not to play down Bangor, but to look at its good points and be more upbeat. 

He also mentioned the start to the new football pitch that is under construction and praised Bangor Football Club and the football team for winning in the finals. He had expressed that he would be working with me to further improve the area. 

Alun Ffred Jones A M for Arfon made a short speech and the Mayor replied. 

The food and wine was excellent and the last speech to thank everyone was made by myself (Councillor) Douglas Madge. 

There was no toast to the Queen or Welsh National Anthem sung, the Master of Ceremonies was Councillor Bill Lovelock.

The evenings proceedings started at 18.08 and finished round about 9.45pm.  

Jeanne Molyneux was chosen as Deputy to the incoming Deputy Mayor of Bangor Councillor Jean Forsyth.

Councillor John Martin with Jeanne and Jean Forsyth.  Councillor John Martin made a speach in praise of Jean as her proposer and I seconded this by also speaking in favour of Jean Forsyth.

The Lord Lieutenant of Gwynedd Mrs. Daniels together with the new Mayor's wife Mrs. Wyn Jones and his proposers from Councillor Dafydd Llewelyn and Councillor Edward Huw Williams his seconder.

By special request from Jean Forsyth I photographed the Lady in Red who happened to be her Aunty.

Joyce, the new Deputy Mayor's sister with her husband.  This is Jean Forsyth's sister.

The husband and wife team to be elected into Gwynedd Council, Jean and Keith Marshall.

A new Councillor in Bangor City Council, Carol Morris with Councillor Kath Thomas.

Another new City Councillor Gareth Roberts with Councillor Dorothy Bulledd and Councillor Bill Lovelock.

At the Mayor's nosh-up in Old Friars school put on by Coleg Menai.  The Principal of Coleg Menai Dr. Hadyn Edwards, pointing his finger at the Town Clerk from Caernarfon and the retiring Mayor of Bangor, Councillor Derk Heinge.
