Happy Birthday Meirion

Popular local historian and innovator of Caernarfon's all welsh website Cofis.co.uk cleebrates his 80th birthday.

I hope you join with us here on Caernarfon Online in wishing him a very Happy Birthday.

Meirion has been very supportive of what we do here a Caernarfon Online and over the years I am pleased to be able to call him a good friend and as well as a person I can count on for advice and guidance. His knowledge of Caernarfon is second to none and over the years he has helped many of our readers with instant responses on his Historical website. Both these websites are down to Meirion and I cannot take any credit as they were both his ideas and ones which we have thoroughly enjoyed here in Caernarfon.

We have achieved a lot here at Caernarfon Online as well as suffered some set backs but I must say the highs far outweigh the lows. Two such highlights of Meirion's time with us here on Caernarfon Online was firstly when we were invited to Ysgol Yr Hendre to give a talk on the Royal Town and some of its hidden gems. Meirion had prepared a talk for the youngsters and I was proud to have been able to compile a Microsoft Presentation to accompany his dialogue. The visit proved to be very popular with the youngsters and one I must add I thoroughly enjoyed.

The event that really sticks in the mind however, was when Champion FM awarded Meirion with a Gold Disc in their first ever Toast Awards. This was a proud moment for me as Meirion scooped the Welsh Language title.

I hope you all join in and wish him the very best for the future and hope this milesotne will nt slow him down too much.

Diolch am popeth Mei, Cofi dre - All the we!

Here we have two videos of Meirion, the first of which shows his stance on honouring Llewelyn Turner in Caernarfon and the second shows his Champion 103FM Toast Awards Success!

A word from Meirion

Today, the 29thof May 2008, saw a very important milestone n my lifetime. Some of you will have guessed it. I reached that magical figure of four score years, yes the big 80 and I  feel that it is time that I should be relieved  of commitments that I have brought on myself in the past 6/7years. Apart from contributing regularly to Caernarfon Online’s English and Welsh websites www.Cofis.co.uk and  www.Cofis-dre-ar-y-we.co.uk . I have kept a monthly column going for the Welsh Caernarfon Community Paper, Papur Dre, for 6 years without a break. As an octogenarian and due to my wife’s incapacity I know that this cannot continue and that I must cut down on my work load, therefore I have decided that I will have to shed the most demanding commitment, which is to Caernarfon Online's sister sites "Cofis" and "Did you know?"

In view of this, no updates to either these websites will take effect, but I am prepared to answer any questions relating to the History of the Town of Caernarfon, as long as they do not include Family History Questions which are extremely time consuming and should be referred to The Gwynedd Family History Society.

Secondly, I will continue to write my monthly contribution to Papur Dre, but will no longer act as a distributor of the paper due to failing health reasons and will be relieved of my commitment as from October 1st. 2008.

Cofion,

Mei
