Same old, Same old!

In what seems like years ago, we reported on the 2006 May bank holiday fiasco which took place in Caernarfon.

Our photos showed a ghost town with nearly all our shops closed and absolutely nothing for visitors to do. We told you how disappointed we were to see events organisers missing a great opportunity in making the May bank holiday something special for the town and it's businesses.

We showed you fantastic photos of what Colwyn Bay and Llandudno were doing. Both towns held 'fun days' with the Llandudno Extravaganza attracting  thousands of people from all over North Wales.

BAck then we told you that Caernarfon was missing out on this trade and needed to get its act together.

Question:

So three years on what do we have?

Answer:

A big fat NOTHING, that's what!

Once again Llandudno were turning people away because of the popularity of their event. Nearly all their shops were open and doing a great trade. Colwyn Bay was just the same with the great weather doing wonders to these already popular events.

Caernarfon? Well how can we put it? Caernarfon was CLOSED! Well it might just as well have been with over 90% of our shops closed and nothing special organised. It seems no one listens or no one is bothered. Visitors who had bothered to visit us were searching for things to do and many were heard muttering that it was dead here and no effort had been made.

The bottom line is, our businesses are struggling and something has to be done to create a business organisation to bring these shops together.

A well organised Business Consortium would help give Caernarfon businesses a foothold in everything that's important to their businesses.

Only by working together can the town achieve something, but at the moment the apathy shown by everyone is alarming!

On Sunday the good people of Cancer Research UK have organised The Race for Life and they have chosen Coed Helen in Caernarfon as its venue. (This is a very important charity event supported by Gwynedd Council).

This year they plan to smash their target of £133,000. The events starts at 10.30am and contestants are recommended to be there an hour before to warm up.

2,000 women are expected to compete and this should be a great attraction for Caernarfon (which businesses should make the most of). What's the betting that 90% of our businesses will again be closed due to lack of organisation?

Ponder: If there are 2,000 women competing and they all bring just 'one friend' or 'partner' with them in support, then we can expect at least 4,000 people coming to Caernarfon! All these people will be looking for refreshments, food, entertainment, things to do etc etc etc. Need we say more?

Race for Life will take place at Aberforeshore starting at Coed Helen 10.30am
