Only one way into town!
Gwynedd Council seems to have done a complete U turn on the one way system on Bangor Street. Businesses on the main entrance road into town have been complaining for months that the decision to stop motorists entering the town through Bangor Street would effect trading.
In the last twelve months we have seen the Town Council letting close down as well as the Adfer shop and now Caernarfon Pine is closing its doors for the last time. Added to this Ty Bach Twt is operating on reduced hours and the former Bryce Edwards Jones office has been empty for years. Paul's owner Paula Jones and "Will Butch" have both been heavily against the one way system. This week Gwynedd explained that the new cash generated into the town will
now be used to (wait for it) reverse the one way system so cars can enter the town from Bangor Street and leave the opposite direction that traffic currently runs pass the Bus stops.
Caernarfon Online asked our resident local historian T Meirion Hughes about his views of what has gone wrong on Bangor Street, his response may not be what you expected. Meirion has a wealth of information about everything relating to the town and he explains how good trading was on this same street during his lifetime.
The Interview above is in Welsh and we hope you enjoy his explanation. To view just click on the video above.
