Gwynedd Council elects new
Chairman
In the
annual Gwynedd Council meeting on 4 May, Councillor Anne Lloyd-Jones (Tywyn) was
elected as Gwynedd Council Chairman, and Councillor W Tudor Owen (Peblig,
Caernarfon) as Vice-Chairman.
A Gwynedd
Councillor since 1995 and previously Meirionnydd District Council, she comes
from the Dysynni Valley near Tywyn. She has worked as a tourism operator since
1974 running a farm guest house on the outskirts of Tywyn and she has been
Chairman of Mid Wales Tourism since 2001.
As she was
elected as Gwynedd Council Chairman, Councillor Anne Lloyd-Jones said:
“It is a
great privilege to have been elected Chairman of Gwynedd Council. I look forward
immensely to the year ahead, and I will do my best to serve and promote the good
work of Gwynedd Council for the benefit of all the county’s residents.”
A Tywyn
Town Councillor since 1985, Councillor Anne Lloyd-Jones served as Lady Mayor in
1991 and again in 2004. She takes an active part in a number of charitable
organisations and has served as treasurer of Tywyn NSPCC since 1989 and was past
president and treasurer of the Inner Wheel club of Tywyn.
She is
married to John who is Chairman of the Countryside Council for Wales and former
president of NFU Cymru and they have three daughters. Her interests include
travelling, reading, chess and the theatre.
Councillor
W Tudor Owen (Peblig, Caernarfon) was elected as Vice-Chairman. He has been a
member of Gwynedd Council since 1995.
