Alan Hughes, a Senior
Leisure Officer with Gwynedd Council, has been elected a Vice President of
Sports Aid Cymru Wales and will represent North Wales on the new Board. Alan has been helping raise funds for the Charity for over 15
years and is very honoured to have been invited to be part of an organisation
which has helped so many young people become succesful Welsh sportsmen and
women at both national, international, comonwealth and world levels.
Alan joins an elite
board which includes Lord
Kinnock of Bedwellty (President), Mark Oliver (Chairman and Director of Business Services for gas pipeline company Wales & West
Utilities), Ron Jones MBE (Director and former sprinter, captain of the Great
Britain team at the 1968 Mexico Olympics), Brynmor Williams (Vice President, former Wales International Rugby Union
player and rugby commentator).
Sports Aid Cymru
Wales has supported some of the Wales’
most succesful athletes of all time including Nicole Cooke who brought home
gold from the Bejing Olympic. Other athletes that have been supported in their
early years include Jamie Baulch, David Roberts and Becky Brewerton.
With the onset of the London Olympics, Sports Aid is keen to work even more
closely with local businesses and organisations to help the next generation of
sporting heroes who hail from Wales to achieve their full potential and make Wales a truly proud sporting
nation.
