Residents not happy during the first week of the new Recycling collections
Residents in the centre of town were not happy last week when the council failed to collect their blue recycling bins. Houses in Garnon Street, Pool Lane, and Tre Gof to name but a few, were still waiting for collections to be made late Tuesday afternoon. Many of the residents are over retirement age and had to return their bins (some very heavy) to their back yards.
One resident who wished to remain anonymous told Caernarfon Online. "It is ridiculous that the services have been cut and we are forced to keep rubbish at our homes for two weeks, but then not turning up makes things worse. I had put out a heavy box full of old newspapers and paper accumulated over the Christmas period only to be told that the council were experiencing difficulties and the bins would be collected the next day. If I'd have left them out overnight, there would be no telling where the contents would be by morning."
When Caernarfon Online visited the sites, we saw lbins left uncollected and paper flying out of some boxes.
Steffan Jones, Gwynedd Council Senior Waste Manager told Caernarfon Online:
"The Council is currently introducing new recycling and waste collection arrangements in the Arfon area of the county. As part of the new
arrangements, recycling collections are now provided to Arfon households on a weekly basis, with the green wheelie bin (regular household waste) collected one week, and the brown wheelie bin (garden and kitchen waste) collected the following week.
"We appreciate that in some circumstances, there have been some problems and we apologise for any problems which have occurred. Arrangements are being made to address any problems at Garnon Street, Caernarfon.
"We would urge any residents who have any questions or concerns regarding the new arrangements to contact the Council's Waste and Recycling Helpdesk on 01286 679872 where our dedicated team of advisers are on-hand to assist
them."
