"Gwilym Euros" seat by Llais Gwynedd
Llais Gwynedd had held on to Blaenau Ffestiniog’s Diffwys
and Maenofferen Ward on Gwynedd Council.
In a straight fight against Plaid Cymru Llais Gwynedd’s
candidate, Richard Lloyd Jones, received 185 votes whilst opponent, Paul
Thomas, received 181 votes in a 44% turn-out.
“This was a difficult seat to hold and winning by a narrow
margin was not unexpected,” said Llais Gwynedd’s Chairman, Councillor Owain
Williams.
“It also proves that Llais Gwynedd remains a force to be
reckoned with in Gwynedd as the strives to question Plaid policies and their
effect on the county’s small towns and rural areas,” he added.
The Diffwys and Maenofferen Ward bi-election was called
following the resignation of Llais Gwynedd Councillor, Gwilym Euros Roberts.
Llais Gwynedd was established before the 2008 Local
Government Elections mainly to oppose Plaid’s rural school closure programme in
the county. The party has 13 councillors on the County Council.
