Congratulations go to Hywel Williams for a splendid election that sees the new seat of Arfon under Plaid Cymru for the next four to five years, unless of course the National vote sees a hung parliament and another election before the end of the year.
The Arfon count was conducted at the aptly named Arfon Leisure Centre on Bethel Road in Caernarfon. Caernarfon Online Editor Gareth Edwards was BBC1's Official Stringer and it was he who passed on the result to the BBC and SKY for live broadcast at 1.00am.
Throughout the day polling had been slow but steady with the Noddfa Centre reporting that around 500 residents had voted up to 7pm. It was unclear how many had made postal votes.
Caernarfon Online chatted briefly with Hywel Williams mid afternoon and asked him how things were going. Hywel told us that despite a slow turn out in the morning he was quietly confident that things were going well.

The turn out was 26,156 (63.52%) with 78 spoilt votes.
CaernarfonOnline would like to congratulate Hywel on his win and hopes this will be good news for the newly assembled Arfon seat which was last held by Liberal Lloyd George.
