The old Ysgol Yr Hendre demolished
Work to flatten the old Ysgol Yr Hendre started this week and will be completed within two weeks. The bulldozers of Windmill started work at the kitchen and will make light work on flattening the one story building.
Over the last few months, the building has been a magnet for anti social behaviour and many break in's. Deputy Mayor and Gwynedd Councillor told us " I am very pleased to see the school finally being demolished as it has attracted a lot of unruly behaviour since it's closure. I have been pressing for the council to start work on the building so that Hendre residents have peace at night time. At the same time, it will be strange to see the school not there any more. A lot of children in Caernarfon have a lot of fond memories at the school."
Despite the rain today and more forecast, the work is going ahead on schedule and made safe. The contractors and Gwynedd council apologised for any inconvenience caused by the demolition, and are hoping to keep any disruptions to a minimum. They hope that locals are patient during this time as the site is made secure and safe for everyone.
Security staff will monitor the site on a 24hour basis.
